Nelson L. Bernardo, MD is the Medical Director of the Peripheral Vascular Lab at the Medstar Heart and Vascular Institute in Washington, DC. Besides his clinical and teaching duties, his research interests include treatment strategies for peripheral arterial disease, specifically on chronic total occlusions and critical limb ischemia. He also has established a well-recognized CTO-PCI and ‘high-risk’ PCI programs. Dr. Bernardo is part of the organizing faculty of the annual Cardiovascular Research Technologies (CRT) conference in Washington, DC. He also runs the yearly Mastering Cardiac and Vascular Complications (MCVC) meeting specifically focused for fellows-in-training. He actively promotes collaborations across the various disciplines to attain optimal outcomes and investigation of vasculopaths who tend to be elderly with severe co-morbidities and multi-system atherosclerotic disease.
